Stepping Up

These images were shot on the abandoned Alameda Naval Station. I am drawn to this place by its rusting architecture full of history — the beauty of what was and what still is to be. Perhaps as a matter of fate, shortly after the shoot I fell down some stairs. These images assumed a more personal meaning; the light I captured transformed them from obstacle to art. The climb may be perilous at times, but the light when you see it (divine perhaps?), lifts you.
